SC State audit shows fund misuse, overpayments, nepotism
With more than $4 million in the hole and lingering questions over money surrounding the James Clyburn Transportation Center, another audit has surfaced at SC State University.
The Clyburn Transportation Center is nearly 15 years behind schedule and one building is all they have to show for the $80 million research center.
State auditors the center may never be finished.
"If these types of issues aren't corrected, you might end up in a situation where the university is debarred from a particular grant," said former SC State internal investigator and former head of SLED Reggie Lloyd.

SC Sheriffs have power to fire employees at will
Nearly two years ago Deputy Tick Wilson found out he lost his job with Kershaw County from a voice mail.
It said: "Tick - 'Tick, I no longer wish to employ you. Turn your stuff in."
The call was similar to the one his friend and department veteran Jim Miller got that same June night.
It was the day after
the election and Miller said he had told the Kershaw County Sheriff that
he was not voting for the man the Sheriff was hoping would be elected
to succeed him.
"He told me 'Jim,
this is the Sheriff and I no longer need your services.' I said 'yes
sir', and he says 'you can turn your car in tomorrow. But I turned it in
that night," said Miller.
Miller said he wasn't surprised.
"Because that's the way business is done sometimes, for the pleasure of the Sheriff," he said.
