Four people shot--one fatally-- in the 43rd Precinct  in a six-hour period last weekend; curfew suggested

Residents say area west of Parkchester is "war zone"

Three shootings within six hours last weekend in the 43rd Precinct has residents and community leaders struggling to find a response to the violence.

One man was killed and three people were wounded between 11:40 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.

The murder of a 21-year-old man who was shot several times at Academy Gardens on Rosedale Ave. led Tangee Lingard, an Academy Gardens resident and 43rd Precinct Community Council president, to suggest an 11 p.m. curfew for the complex.

"Something needs to be done until we can get everything under control again," Lingard said. "It would make it easier for the police department. If somebody was just sitting on a bench at a certain time of night, it would give (police) a reason to question them."

Lingard said the city should also provide more activities to keep youth off the streets.

“It seems like they’re getting younger and younger pulling the trigger,” Lingard said.
