he film and Broadway communities lost one of their most successful composers abruptly on Tuesday, as Marvin Hamlisch died at 68 after a brief, unspecified illness.Perhaps best known for his work on the beloved musical A Chorus Line and movies The Way We Were and The Sting, Hamlisch also wrote the scores for celebrated films such as Ordinary People, Sophie's Choice and Take the Money and Run, and contributed to the James Bond hit The Spy Who Loved Me, co-writing Nobody Does It Better with Carole Bayer Sager.
Red Ventures expanding in SC, adding 1,000 jobs
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Direct marketing company Red Ventures is expanding in Lancaster County and expects to add 1,000 employees over the next five years.T
he company announced Tuesday it has nearly doubled its property at its Indian Land headquarters and expects to start construction on its third building by year's end.
The company is expanding from 17 acres to 33 acres in Indian Land, an unincorporated area of Lancaster County just south of Charlotte, N.C.
Red Ventures employed 300 people when it moved to South Carolina in 2009 and now employs nearly 1,000. The company employs a total of 1,500 nationwide.
With farming booming, ag expo planned for Florence
FLORENCE, S.C. -- With farming booming in South Carolina, a new agriculture event is being staged in Florence this winter.The Morning News of Florence (http://bit.ly/MKy0bC) reports that the South Carolina AgriBiz and Farm Expo will be held at the Florence Civic Center in January.
The event is backed by the state Department of Agriculture and will bring farmers, businessmen, vendors and suppliers together for a three-day agriculture show. Agribusiness provides nearing 200,000 jobs in the state, and the show is expected to bring visitors from surrounding states.
